Let’s be honest, hot flashes are no picnic, agreed? You go to bed, comfortable and ready for a good night’s sleep after a long day, but instead you find yourself tossing and turning, waking up soaked in sweat as if you just stepped out of the shower…

Sighing in exhausted frustration, you peel your damp clothes from your body, change your bed sheets and crawl back in, only to wake up hours later in the exact same boat… Can you relate?

And what’s worse is that menopause hot flashes don’t only creep up at night, but also during the day when you’re seemingly doing your own thing, working, in a meeting, watching tv… all of a sudden it’s like someone turned up the heat, and you feel that uncomfortable prickly sensation creep up your body, and you swear the people around you can feel the heat coming off of you. Sound familiar?

In this blog we’re going to dig deep into why these hot flashes happen with menopause, and how natural practices like Castor Oil Packs and Castor Oil may help support you during this phase of life. Let’s begin!

What causes menopause hot flashes?

Ever found yourself wondering what exactly causes those uncomfortable menopause hot flashes?

Hot flashes, those quick moments of heat, sweating, and discomfort, are quite common during menopause. Surprisingly, not many women seek help for these symptoms, even though they can be bothersome.

Understanding menopause and hot flashes by Queen of the Thrones
These hot flashes happen because the body reacts strongly to small increases in core temperature, and various factors like hormones and certain signals in the brain contribute to them.

When it comes to managing hot flashes, there are a few options. Some women find relief with hormonal replacement therapy or medications that affect serotonin and norepinephrine, while others find that making lifestyle changes can also help.1

Menopause hot flashes impact around 74% of women in the perimenopausal stage.

And get this, 65% of women have to deal with hot flashes for over two years, while 36% endure them for more than five years.2 It’s a real challenge for many!

Hot flashes symptoms

What do hot flashes feel like by Queen of the Thrones

Now, hot flashes are more than just uncomfortable sweating, damp clothes and bed sheets.

This frustrating symptom can also cause intense feelings of heat in the face and neck, rapid or irregular heartbeat, flushing of the skin, sleep disturbances, perspiration, and even cold chills.3

Beyond the physical sensations, hot flashes can bring along other unwelcome companions.

Many women report feelings of anxiety and even chills as their body temperature quickly rises and falls.

The frequency and duration of these episodes can vary, with some women experiencing them occasionally, while others have to navigate through them multiple times a day.

Apart from the immediate discomfort, the impact of hot flashes can extend to daily life. Interrupted sleep due to nighttime hot flashes can lead to fatigue and irritability. The unpredictability of hot flashes can also create emotional stress, affecting mood and overall well-being.4

Natural remedies for hot flashes

Have you found yourself searching for a non-hormonal treatment for hot flashes

Estrogen has been a go-to for taming those intense hot flashes during menopause – it’s been the superstar treatment for a while.

But here’s the twist: nowadays, lots of women are on the lookout for different options. Instead of going the hormonal therapy route, some are exploring alternatives like vitamins and other over-the-counter goodies to find relief from those pesky hot flashes. One of the contenders in this lineup is good ol’ vitamin E.5

How does vitamin E help with hot flashes? Vitamin E isn’t just your regular antioxidant – it’s got some cool tricks up its sleeve. Recent studies suggest that besides fending off free radicals, vitamin E might play a role in keeping those arteries wide and open.6

While most of the spotlight has been on its heart-friendly benefits, it turns out, it could also be the reason why it helps stabilize blood flow in the arteries, ultimately giving those pesky hot flashes a run for their money.

Vitamins aside, lifestyle factors can also play a part in helping to manage hot flashes, including:

Exercise: Breaking a sweat a few times a week could be your secret weapon against those annoying hot flashes. Working out can be your all-in-one solution for other menopause challenges. Expect improvements in your sleep, mood, energy levels, weight management, and stress levels. It’s like a package deal for feeling better overall.7

And here’s the kicker – being active can change your attitude towards hot flashes. It might not make them disappear, but it can make dealing with them a whole lot more manageable.

Diet: Time to load up on the good stuff – fruits and veggies are your new BFFs in the battle against hot flashes. Why? Well, these water-rich wonders can actually help dial down the heat and keep you feeling refreshed.

Natural remedies for hot flashes by Queen of the Thrones
Think of it as giving your body a cool-down treat. Stock up on things like lettuce, cucumbers, berries, watermelon, bananas, avocado, celery, broccoli, and carrots. They’re like nature’s hydrating superheroes.

And here’s a tasty tip – going for a Mediterranean diet might be the key. Don’t ask us why exactly, but folks munching on this kind of goodness seem to have fewer hot flashes.8

Est. reading time: 6 minutes.

I used to look at my breasts in the mirror, pulling one up and comparing it to the other. I would wish so hard to have perky, stand-up-here breasts instead of pendulous, way down-there-puppies with sparkling, multicolored stretch marks.
Weight changes and overnutrition in my youth never gave me the opportunity to have perky, perfect breasts. Instead, I went from flat to fat and then stretched out to swinging and saggy.Breasts define our femininity in many ways, we feel sexy because of them and un-sexy in spite of them.I recall getting intimate with my husband and being so ashamed to get naked in front of him. I apologetically told him I needed to be honest with him and tell him that my breasts sagged, instead of being heralds of fertility and proud of them with pomp and circumstance. I felt deflated because of them just like they were deflated.Turns out he didn’t care. He actually knew, and had been staring down my top for a while and loved what he was seeing – without me knowing!

Why are breasts such a big deal?

Breasts are bold, they stick out from our bodies. They are the first thing that enters the room, the first thing in many cases that get noticed.

Men obsess about them, maybe because they have mother and latching issues, or maybe because they just adore the difference between male and female bodies.

Whether you think your breasts are too large or too small, they are a source of shame for many. It’s time to take this inappropriate thought pattern and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

It’s our time to be proud of all of our shapes and sizes and stretch marks. Be proud of the pleasure they bring us, from foreplay to feeding our babies.

Breast judgments

My first encounter with the dangers of judgments made on breasts wasn’t my own, but actually my mother’s. When she was a dashing young lady, she had gone to the doctor’s office to have her yearly check-up and breast exam.

Upon taking off her shirt to be examined, the doctor gasped at how large her breasts were (super inappropriate FYI, in this day and age but this was back in the 60s). My mother, being incredibly shy about her sexuality, was immediately embarrassed, turned red as a lobster and searched to get dressed immediately.

So shocked was she by this judgment that she never had another breast exam again, until it was too late.

Breast cancer awareness month by Queen of the Thrones

Judgments can damage our psyche, we don’t know how our words will fall on the ears receiving them. Judgments serve no purpose either, except pain. After all, no one asks the doctor to comment on how large they are, but rather how healthy they are.

My mother’s breast cancer

Forty years later, my mother waited until blood came out of her nipple and a mass so large it was hard to avoid, came cauli-flowering out of her breast. With two doctors as daughters, we couldn’t believe that she had let the shame of an event that happened so long ago, impact her life now.

The diagnosis – stage 4 breast cancer. Devastating, with little to no time to act.

Because of this experience, I got over my breast bullsh*t and got into owning one of the most beautiful, female, flourishing features of my health.

Importance of breast exams

For this reason alone, every single woman in my naturopathic practice would get a yearly breast exam, done by our skilled naturopath assessment hands.

But some of us don’t have access to a doctor who is experienced or willing to do a breast exam, especially since now the recommendation is to avoid breast exams.

In countries where breast cancer is diagnosed at advanced stages, it is valuable to have patients understand breast self-examination as well as to be examined1.

So this is extremely valuable. My mother was fortunate, even though she was at the extreme case, she survived with a combination of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy as well as naturopathic medicine. Her cancer was so far advanced that it was an impossibility to only do the natural route.

Self-examination is invaluable

The comment  I used to get in my clinical practice time again is that most women don’t know what normal feels like. They feel that their breasts are lumpy and bumpy (a sign of estrogen dominance, or low iodine).

But let me tell you, the first time I did a breast exam I thought exactly the same thing! How was I going to identify anything going wrong if I can’t notice anything different?

Do you know what changed it? Practice, my friends, practice is the mother of all skills.

And what if you find lots of lumps and bumps? Make your way to your doctor and get checked out. It never hurts to be extra cautious.

There are many things you can do at home now to support cystic & lumpy breasts

Most of these strategies deal with reducing the amount of estrogen in your body:

1.Reduce your alcohol intake3

2. Reduce your theophylline intake, in coffee, tea and chocolate

3. Wear an eye compress to bed to naturally support melatonin which is a powerful anti-cancer hormone in the body4

4. Of course, do a Castor Oil Pack daily, because it may help with cleansing and detox5, microbiome balance6 7 8, inflammation9, and stress reduction10 11, which all impact your hormonal balance.

So get to know your boobies! I know I’ve got saggy breasts, and sometimes they really do look like sacks! But I love them because they are me 100% and I get to know them regularly so I can keep them a part of me for the long haul. They are my twins after all, and I can’t get another pair just like these (no judgment if you’ve had yours changed, just love!).

Do you know the difference between then and now? Now I love my breasts, I treat them better every single day because I have learned that they are an important part of who I am. They share my story.

I also want to share a quick recipe with Castor Oil for boob and lymphatic wellness. Castor Oil has a long history of use for breast cancer. In fact, Hippocrates, known as the father of modern medicine was advocating it as a treatment in 460 BCE, as was another medicine man of the time, Galen in 200 BCE12.

What Circadian Rhythm, Castor Oil and Walnuts Have in Common for Breast Wellness

“I learned to put myself first.”

“It was up to me to decide what to do with my life.”

You’ll hear phrases like this from women who’ve made significant lifestyle changes following breast cancer. Can you relate?

Or maybe right now, you or the people you serve are wondering, “how can I keep my breasts healthy?”

You see, it’s fairly common for a health scare to shock people into re-examining their lives and what matters most to them. Breast cancer is no exception, and it’s understandable.

Breast health can help you look at your life differently. In fact, on an energetic level, breast issues can correspond to an imbalance of nurturing energy, usually focused on the self. So if you’re reading this now, or if you have breast concerns or discomfort, you could look at this as a time for reflection on how you can take better care of you – and especially the wellness of your breasts.

The old adage an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is highly relevant for breast troubles. Perhaps you’ve also heard the phrase, “a pill for an ill”. Can you relate?

Most breast cancers are linked to lifestyle factors by Queen of the Thrones

Before giving away the reason behind this statement, let’s first look at a surprising statistic.

About 30 to 40% of breast cancers are linked to lifestyle factors.1

Yes. That’s true. While many believe breast disorders/conditions are genetic, hereditary connections are only responsible for less than 10% of the cases.2

However, there are lifestyle changes you can make right now to support your breast health.

Of course, it might be difficult to talk about your breasts and any changes you’ve observed. The breast is loaded with cultural meaning and importance, so yeah – talking about your girls is a little different from discussing changes in say – your feet. . . though feet are important too.

You may even avoid examinations like mammograms or thermograms because you’re worried about discovering something abnormal.

But, visiting your healthcare professional is the best way to understanding your unique body and the best steps to take.

So, with this in mind, let’s look at a few things that can influence your breast health.

The link between inflammation and breast health

You may have noticed soreness or pain in the breasts, especially around your menstrual cycle. You aren’t alone. These symptoms affect two-thirds of women, especially during the childbearing age.3 Are you wondering why this happens? Well, the answer lies in the breast structure.

You see, breasts comprise four main tissue structures:

  • Fat tissue
  • Milk ducts
  • Glands
  • Connective tissue

The fat tissue is influenced by fluctuations in fluid volume. So, this can cause your breasts to swell, resulting in soreness or tenderness, especially right before your cycle when estrogen levels increase.

“What causes increased fluid?”

A common cause for increased fluid volume is inflammation. Inflammation is kind of like a fire, and what do you use to put out a fire? Water.

Inflammation is part of your body’s process of fighting against things that harm it (like infections) in an attempt to restore balance.

So, when something damages your cells, your body releases chemicals that trigger an inflammatory response from your immune system. It’s a natural process, but in today’s modern world, inflammation is often out of control.

Did you know that lymphatic blockage can also cause inflammation?4

Lymph vessels are hollow tubes in your lymphatic system that allow lymph fluid to drain out of your breasts. But, if your lymph vessels are blocked, your breasts can become red, swollen, and inflamed. Makes sense, agreed?

Swollen lymph nodes may also be present under the arm, near the collarbone, or both. Disturbed sleep can also contribute to breast inflammation.

So, let’s dive into more about this and the connection between your…

Circadian rhythm and breast health

Circadian Rhythm by Queen of the Thrones

Imagine having a hectic week, with only four hours of sleep every night for 7 days in a row. Sounds pretty terrible, right? You’d probably be irritable, frustrated, or even sad, agreed?

But, sleep isn’t only about the quantity, it’s also about quality. Even if you can sleep eight hours a day, but you wake up every two hours, you’ll wake up in the morning feeling exhausted. Is this you?

Learn with Queen of the Thrones how Circadian rhythm and breast health are related

This is because your body’s internal 24-hour clock runs in the background and regulates your sleep-wake cycle, hormones, and even cell division.

But, if your sleep-wake cycle is off, so is your circadian rhythm.

Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle and they can affect hormones, body temperature, and digestion, not to mention how you feel when you’re sleep deprived or experiencing jet lag.

You see, different systems of your body follow circadian rhythms that are synchronized with a master clock in your brain.

This master clock is directly influenced by environmental cues, especially light, which is why circadian rhythms are tied to the cycle of day and night. Makes sense, right?

When properly aligned, a circadian rhythm can promote consistent and restorative sleep.

But, when your circadian rhythm is thrown off, it can create significant sleeping problems, including insomnia. Does this sound like you?

Research also reveals that circadian rhythms are integral to diverse breast health aspects5. Now, beyond sleep, have you ever wondered if there’s a connection between your gut health and breasts?

Gut microbia and breast health

Gut microbia are microflora in your digestive tract. While it may sound dangerous, these bacteria are helpful and regulate various body functions.

From protecting against disease-causing bacteria to regulating immune function, these bacteria support your health in various ways.6

In fact, your gut bacteria influences estrogen metabolism and adiposity, which are both associated with breast health.

Immune interactions with gut microbiota and microbial effects on host DNA also play a role in developing breast conditions. More specifically, a healthy gut microbiota has shown to play an important role in breast health because when estrogen is processed and released through your liver as bile, it ends up in your gut. If your gut bacteria are balanced and thriving, they may help control these estrogen molecules and keep them from creating carcinogenic problems in breast tissue.20

So, keeping your gut microbiota healthy and thriving can also support better breast health.

Would you love to know more about how to balance your gut bacteria?

How can I keep my breasts well?

Now that you know the importance of breast health and the influencing factors, let’s look at four things you can do to support your breast wellness. Are you ready?

1. Eat healthy because food matters

Eating healthy is necessary for a healthy breast by Queen of the Thrones

You are what you eat. Have you heard this before? Some ways you can support your breasts nutritionally are:

  • Limiting your sugar intake
  • Eating whole foods including healthy fats, hearty proteins, and heaps of vegetables
  • Avoiding processed foods
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Eating foods rich in flavonoids, such as broccoli, onions, celery, parsley, and green tea
  • Increasing your intake of nuts – especially walnuts

2. Get good quality sleep

Getting adequate sleep is one of the crucial steps to naturally support your breast health. Start by…

  • Having a consistent daily sleep routine: It’s ideal to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. This will help your body restore any imbalance and also help restore your circadian rhythm.
  • Being active: Regular exercise supports melatonin production, your sleep hormone. It can also sync your other body systems with your circadian rhythm.7
  • Avoiding caffeine in the evening: Caffeine is a stimulant that can keep you awake.
  • Limiting screen time: The blue light from your tablet/cellphone alters your melatonin production, disrupting your circadian rhythm.8
  • Wearing a Castor Oil Eye Compress to bed: Using this compress makes you feel relaxed as your Eye Compress gently blocks out distracting lights. Some studies show that wearing an eye mask to bed may help support melatonin production.9,10
Queen of the Thrones eye compress supports better sleep
It’s truly relaxing, and when you wear an Eye Compress with Castor Oil, you may be supporting natural inflammation balance11, as well as skin-loving nutrients like vitamin E, polyphenols and omegas13.

3. Use a Castor Oil Fascia Massage Roller to enhance your lymphatic flow

Queen of the Thrones Castor Oil Fascia Massage Roller Kit enhance your lymphatic flow

Did you know that a well-functioning lymphatic system is crucial for your breast health? It’s true! Keeping the lymph flowing through the lymph nodes in your breasts can support breast health by keeping inflammation low and, as a result, keeping your lymph nodes from getting clogged.

The good news: there are multiple ways to support your lymphatic system, including a Castor Oil Fascia Body Roller.

You see, a Fascia Body Roller helps you do a gentle massage around your breasts so you can naturally support blood supply to your muscles, support the movement of lymphatic fluid, and assist in removing toxins from your body.

The network of lymph is directly connected to the fascia, which sits right underneath the skin.

So, fascia body rolling may help relieve muscle tension, activates your lymphatic system, and reduces pain and soreness. Plus, adding Castor Oil can further boost the benefits of the roller.

4. A simple massage can make a difference

Did you know that healthy breasts largely come from having a healthy liver?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, negative liver emotions such as frustration, anger, and resentment can result in the accumulation of toxins in the body, adversely affecting your breasts.14

So how can you easily support your liver?

Massaging the liver aids in the removal of stagnated toxins15, protecting and supporting breast health.

Plus, wearing a Castor Oil Pack for Liver may also support breasts… But how? Read on!

Firstly, it’s mechanical, with the compression of the pack placed over the liver (under your right rib cage), in combination with the movement of your breathing muscles.

This may act like a pump to your lymphatic system, encouraging lymphatic drainage. Amazing, agreed?

Secondly, it’s neurological, because when the pack is placed on specific dermatomes, this activates the somatic visceral reflexes triggering the activity of internal detox and cleansing organs like the liver, kidney, gut, gallbladder, and more.16

Thirdly, the combination of both mechanical and neurological factors work because the pack stimulates the body’s skin receptors and natural oxytocin feedback loop. This helps activate the vagus nerve and help shifts your body into a rest and digest state17 where liver detox is optimized.

This direct effect of the Castor Oil Pack compress stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. Plus, the penetration of the Castor Oil into your tissues may support inflammation balance.

Queen of the Thrones Castor Oil Liver Packs improves parasympathetic tone

Plus, the penetration of the Castor Oil into the tissues may help reduce inflammation via the Peyer’s patches.18

So, without the pack, Castor Oil will not penetrate as deeply and will instead act much more like a skin emollient. So, as you can see, you need the pack to experience the full range of benefits.

But, even though the Castor Oil Pack is traditionally worn over the liver for breast health, you can also wear Castor Oil Packs over your breasts.

However, don’t use the same pack for your liver as you do your breasts.

It’s unknown whether toxic substances are released via the skin with Castor Oil Packs, especially over the liver since it’s the hub for toxic cleanup in the body. So, to prevent the transfer of toxins to more sensitive areas, only use designated packs on the respective area.

5. Eat walnuts for breast wellness

Have you ever heard of the Doctrine of Signatures? You probably have without even realizing it. It’s a theory as old as ancient Greece and proposes that herbs and other substances can support the body part that they resemble.

While there is some truth to this supposition, it’s important to understand that there are also some dangers. But when it comes to the health of your breasts, recent research has shown that walnuts can actually be beneficial for women with breast cancer. 18, 19

Walnuts are recommend to improve breast health by Queen of the Thrones
In fact, some research has shown that if people with breast cancer eat as little as two ounces of walnuts per day for just two weeks, the gene expression can be altered. They also found that eating walnuts can actually slow breast cancer growth and lessen the risk of breast cancer occurrence in mice19. Amazing, right?

So, in this case at least, the Doctrine of Signatures really has some validity. Have you ever looked at the meat of a walnut? It bears a pretty close resemblance to blood vessels and glands in breast tissue.

6. Go blissfully bra-less

This is probably the best news you’ve heard all day, right? Well, here’s the thing, while going braless and its effect on breast health hasn’t been studied very much, there are some hints that may be something worth doing. Simply put, not wearing a bra most likely won’t cause any problems.

Medical anthropologists Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer did a study and described their findings in their book titled, Dressed to Kill. They came up with some interesting evidence suggesting that there might be a correlation between wearing tight bras and breast cancer rates.

And it makes sense if you think about it. In fact, the Arizona Center for Advanced Medicine suggests that wearing tight bras for long periods of time can actually restrict the movement of lymphatic fluid in your breasts which could compromise breast health21.

So, while you probably don’t want to go bouncing into work braless, you might want to release the girls for a few hours every day. Better still, go for a walk braless or do other kinds of light exercise to help move the lymph through your breast tissue.

How to spot imitation

Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Packs before you buy

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. This might be true, but but flattery quickly turns to concern when imitation Castor Oil Packs put your wellbeing at risk.

You may be a wellness queen with years of experience using Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Packs (and if you are, we’re grateful for your loyalty). Or maybe you’re testing the waters of your new wellness awakening and wondering, “How do I choose a Castor Oil Pack when there’s so many options?

Does this sound like you? If so, read on!

You’ve probably noticed that Amazon and other online retailers seem to have countless varieties of Castor Oil and Castor Oil Packs at varying prices. Each brand claims to be the best for one reason or another, and the number of choices available is dazzling!

If you’re like most people, you’re understandably cost-conscious and simply trying to practice solid self-care without breaking the bank. Makes perfect sense, agreed?

Some of the advertising promises the “perfect” product at a “perfect” price, but here’s where caution is needed. Why? Let’s take a closer look.

Does the “perfect” less mess Castor Oil Pack exist?

Nothing is ever really perfect, is it? I mean, something might seem perfect, but if we’re honest, we begin to see how balance always prevails. Everything has imperfections. Dark always balances light, and so on. But without waxing philosophical, let’s just say that anyone who promises pure perfection is most likely leading you down the garden path.

On the other hand, admitting your weaknesses can help you improve, and that’s exactly what we pride ourselves on here at Queen of the Thrones®.

You might have noticed that we like to be transparent in our advertising. We tell our customers where and how we would like to improve our Castor Oil Packs, and we enjoy being honest by telling you up-front how our packs might not be perfect. They are better than they were, and they’re a lot better than DIY packs, but there is always room for improvement! Agreed?

How we want to improve our packs

If you’re familiar with Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Packs, then you also know that we’re proud of the less-mess design. But we’re careful to make sure everyone understands that the packs could leak, and that’s why we choose to say ‘less-mess’ and not ‘mess-free’. Honesty really is the best policy.

The material that makes these packs less-mess is polypropylene that is heat-bonded to a layer of organic cotton flannel. But here’s the thing, while heat bonding is a cleaner alternative to chemical-bonding, and while polypropylene is considered one of the healthiest plastics (it’s what food containers like yogurt cups are made from), it’s still a type of plastic.

We would love to find a way to create an organic, plastic-free outer layer to keep the packs convenient and less messy, but for the moment, the safest and cleanest option is polypropylene. Sure, it ain’t perfect, but it’s the best design we’ve created so far.

And who knows, we might be on the brink of a whole new design, but in the meantime, we like to be honest with our customers so they know exactly what they’re buying.

We’d also like to find a way to improve on our nylon straps.

In the beginning, the straps were made of organic cotton, but we received tons of feedback that the cotton straps weren’t stretchy enough and would dig into the skin uncomfortably. Ouch! So we decided to redesign the straps using nylon.

With these new soft, stretchy straps, the packs are comfortable enough to sleep in, but we’d prefer that they were made of a more natural material. Again, it ain’t perfect, but it’s the best compromise we could make. Still, we are always innovating and improving, so let’s hope that we’ll find that ideal solution sometime in the near future.

So, what’s the problem with imitation Castor Oil Packs?

With the use of Castor Oil and Castor Oil Packs gaining in popularity, there are, unfortunately, some imitation Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Packs on the market.

This is why we want to educate and empower you on how to spot phonies from the real deal.

Imitation brands made with cheap, synthetic, and chemically treated fabrics are often blended with what sounds like healthy fabrics. The imitation Castor Oil Packs may even have a label that says it’s organic, when it’s not. This is known as greenwashing.

Unfortunately, we can all be fooled into purchasing a less-than-premium product if we don’t know what to look for. See the screenshot below? This was taken from amazon.com of another Castor Oil Pack company that imitates the Queen of the Thrones® design.

Queen of the Thrones Counterfeit image of a Castor Oil Pack

As you can see, their image is almost an exact copy of Queen of the Thrones®, but their pack is manufactured with very different fabrics. Plus, the pack is placed on the wrong side of the body.

Less expensive becomes more expensive

Your help is needed so we can put an end to Queen of the Thrones® imitations. It’s worrisome as a consumer that there are brands out there not telling you the full story about the products you trust.

Companies may make substitutions for cheaper materials thinking that’s what you want.  Also, lack of knowledge, on their part, could lead to a less-than-promised pack, that may do the very opposite of what they are meant to do.

But the less expensive alternative ends up being more expensive in the end, especially if your wellness suffers for it. Not good, right?

We understand that with all great things there will always be a few bad apples in the bunch who try to make a quick buck with poor quality products that don’t have your wellbeing in mind, only their bottom line.

So how do we help you, our trusting and well-meaning consumer, avoid buying something that isn’t Queen of the Thrones® quality? Well, we came up with an idea that might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Why quality materials matter: From Castor Oil Packs to clothing

In our search for a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, the choices we make in the products we use play a pivotal role. Whether it’s for Castor Oil Packs, or the clothing we wear, opting for high-quality organic materials can significantly impact our well-being and the environment.

When it comes to the wellness practice of Castor Oil Packs, the materials used can make a substantial difference. Choosing organic, chemical-free materials for the pack ensures that your skin, the body’s largest organ, interacts with pure and natural substances, helping to minimize exposure to harmful substances.

Clothing is our second skin, and what it’s made of matters more than we probably realize. Opting for organic materials in clothing, such as cotton, wool, or linen ensures that what touches our skin isn’t adding to our toxic load, one company that embodies these values is qforquinn.com.

Organic materials also allow the skin to breathe, possibly helping to lower the risk of skin irritations, and allergies.

Plus, when you choose organic materials, you’re not just choosing an option that’s beneficial for your wellness, but the environment too!

5 ways to spot a FAKE or IMITATION Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Pack or Castor Oil product

1. Synthetic materials

Many imitation packs are made with synthetic fabrics and materials that contain chemicals.

Beware of “organic bamboo” and other materials like cotton velour that are most often blended with plastic fibers or highly processed with chemicals.

Some may even have regulatory symbols stating that they are “healthy”. But the definition of healthy may be very different for manufacturers compared to natural wellness practitioners.

2. The words eco-friendly”, “green”, and “natural” – do not always mean health-friendly.

Yes, we want to help the environment and be eco-friendly, but not everything that is good for the environment is good for you.

This is a great example of the marketing tactic mentioned earlier called ”greenwashing”.

3. Castor Oil bottled in plastic and not amber glass

Castor Oil is known as the best carrier oil, but when it’s bottled in plastic, it can leach contaminants from the plastic bottle. This is why we choose to bottle our Castor Oil in amber glass. The amber color protects the oil from light and the glass prevents leaching plastic-chemicals. Basically, if it’s not packaged in glass, it’s not the best quality.

4. Check the Castor Oil label for “hexane-free” and “100% pure”

Castor Oil can be extracted 2 ways:

  1. Mechanical extraction (pressing)
  2. Solvent extraction (typically with hexane)

With mechanical pressing, the nutrients are maintained instead of being separated from the bean with chemicals (like hexane). Look for bottles that say “hexane-free” and either “cold-pressed” or “expeller pressed”

5. Prices that are too good to be true.

Everyone understands that “you get what you pay for” with quality products, right? If the price is lower than the brands that you know and trust, there’s a reason for it.

6 ways to spot AUTHENTIC Queen of the Thrones® products:

1. The Label

Every Queen of the Thrones® product has a fabric label with our logo, website, and registration number on it.

2. The Material

Every Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Pack is made with an inner layer of organic cotton flannel (the part that touches the skin directly) and manufactured with the cleanest standards possible.

For hygienic reasons we suggest replacing your compress approximately every 2 months.

Note: Bamboo material will feel extremely soft to the touch because it’s been broken down with chemicals that may not wash out completely. In addition, pthalates are often used to make the material softer.

3. The Oil

Castor Oil is a premier carrier oil that can permeate deeply through the upper layers of your skin. Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil is always 100% pure, certified organic, hexane-free, extra virgin and hexane-free.

4. The Bottle

Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil is always bottled in amber glass to avoid the potential of chemicals from plastic bottles contaminating the oil.

5. The Face Behind the Brand

All Queen of the Thrones® products are designed by a naturopathic doctor and homotoxicologist with a designation in environmental medicine. She created these packs for her patients, her family, and her personal wellness practice.

6. Testimonials

Look for the “Verified Buyer” badge on product reviews. Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Packs have been used for years and have received tens of thousands of reviews from people who love and are loyal to the brand.

Why Am I Constipated? It Isn’t Just About Food

Written by: Marisol Teijeiro ND (inactive).

Est. reading time: 6 minutes.

It isn’t a good time, sitting, waiting, wishing for something to manifest. In fact, it is totally painful. Yes, I’m talking about constipation. It affects millions around the world and is the most pressing health condition that exists today. Why then, are there not better ways to solve this ever-pressing problem? (pun intended)

Many people think that constipation simply has to do with food. Of course, food is a huge factor. Not eating enough fiber or drinking enough water can contribute to constipation. And if we eat foods that we are sensitive to, the body often responds with bloating and constipation. But there are a number of other factors that contribute to this agonizing issue which we will explore in this article.

How the body poops

The gut operates under a principle of pressure and lubrication. Without these, you cannot poo! This is why consuming a substantial amount of fiber helps you go to the bathroom. The fiber simply creates the pressure needed to push stools along your digestive tract and allows for the lower sphincter to relax so you can go poo. Fluids also help create pressure and have the double purpose of lubricating the digestive tract. Another key source of lubrication for the gut is the consumption of healthy fats.

The Psychology of Constipation

Without proper pressure and lubrication, there is a high chance of constipation. However, it is not this simple. Constipation is not only about food, it is mediated by a variety of other mechanisms

Pathology of constipation by Queen of the Thrones

Hormonal Constipation

Hormones are another influencer of constipation. Thyroid issues can cause the metabolism to move at an incredibly slow rate, processing food and nourishment very slowly, and expelling it in the same manner1.

Estrogen dominance, which is an epidemic these days, also causes constipation2. High progesterone is required to have healthy bowel movements. When there is no stress, progesterone levels are higher, allowing the lower sphincter to work properly.

Nervous System Constipation

Stress is the other highly notable factor in constipation3. If you’re stressed, not only are you low in progesterone, but also in the minerals that help with relaxation and laxation such as magnesium and vitamin C.

Lifestyle Constipation

Your lifestyle can also contribute to constipation4. Movement of the body is required for movement of the bowels! Makes total sense, right? In order for the smooth muscle of the bowel to contract properly, regular exercise and movement is required5.

Emotional Constipation

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the picture of constipation is correlated to being unable to let things go. You may have a tendency of holding onto things and not working through them. If you hoard, on either a physical or emotional level, you likely have issues with constipation. The body tends to freeze and slow down its activity to protect you.

3 Simple Fixes to Support Constipation

Three tips to fix constipation by Queen of the Thrones

1. Analyzing Your Poo

If you learn how to read them, your poops can become your FREE daily oracle for the state of your health. They can help you decipher which factors are contributing to your constipation, and from there you can take the necessary steps to improve it.

Did you know that there are more than 50 Shades of Poo? Not really, but it sounds pretty cool, just like the movie 50 Shades of Grey. There are many colors, however, and it’s important to know which ones are normal and which ones could be a medical emergency.

Download our other free infographic, the 50 Shades of Poo, so you can find out what you should be looking for in the bowl. I promise you will be blown away by this one simple measure of poo yet there are so many more!

Analyzing Your Poo helps to identify causes of constopation according to Queen of the Thrones

2. Castor Oil Packs

Castor Oil Packs are an amazing tool for constipation. In a study done in a home for the elderly, Castor Oil Packs were compared to conventional laxatives and found to be just as effective. The amazing thing is, there was no harsh urgency to run to the bathroom, as you get with laxatives.

Castor Oil Packs work on the physiological aspect of constipation, but they also indirectly help to balance hormones. Castor Oil Packs have a long history of use for supporting hormonal problems, including estrogen dominance and hypothyroidism. They may help with detoxification in the liver via glutathione7, which helps the liver to clear out excess hormones.

Castor Oil Packs work on the nervous system element of constipation by improving relaxation and balancing stress8,9. Another bonus of using Castor Oil Packs is that they may help with inflammation10,11, which can be yet another contributing factor in constipation12. 3. The Three Legged Stool

Now we know that constipation is about so much more than just food, but since the bowel runs on the principle of pressure and lubrication, it is still an important factor to support. We call this formula the ‘Three Legged Stool for Bowel Movement Success’.

  • Fiber (pressure) – We are drastically deficient in the amount of fiber we are eating. The recommended dosage is 30 grams of fiber per day. On average, North Americans consume only 4-5 grams per day. Great sources of fiber are vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds. Chia seeds are also excellent because they are high in calcium as well as fiber
    • Fluid (pressure and lubrication) – Our bodies are 80% water. Water is the universal solvent, so it moves and cleanses. Ideally, you want to consume 30ml/kg (or 2.2 lbs) of body weight each day, and more if you are exercising.

    • Fat (lubrication) – Fat is like lubricant to your colon. Avocado (fiber and fat), olive oil or coconut oil are all amazing lubricating fats.

So, bottom line, pooping is dependent on so much more than just the foods you are eating. Digestion and elimination function is mediated by hormonal and nervous systems in the body, as well as your lifestyle and emotions.

Would you love a quick and easy recipe to help support colon cleansing and bowel movements? It incorporates what we like to call “ The Three Legged Stool” of…

    1. Fiber (pressure)- Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber that help to bind and move toxins out of the body, plus they’re rich in calcium.

    2. Fluid (pressure and lubrication)- The water in this recipe adds some fluid while softening the coconut oil so it can settle into your baking sheet.

    3. Fat (lubrication)- Coconut oil is a great source of healthy fats that act like a lubricant to your colon.
