Can Healthy Food Be Bad For You?

Heal your Food Sensitivities with the Food Empowerement Kit

Is it possible that the foods you’re eating everyday are the biggest source of poison you’re putting into your body? Perhaps you already have a gut feeling that this rings true to you.

Maybe you’ve already tested for food sensitivities, but your results said you were sensitive to absolutely everything. This left you with nothing to eat! Or perhaps you were on the other end of the scale. You’re sensitive to nothing but still unsure of what to eat because of the symptoms you’re experiencing.

What if the superfoods that you think you should be eating (because they are considered ‘super’), aren’t actually super for YOU?

What are the Cost Common Food Sensitivity Symptoms

When it comes to figuring out what foods are right for you, it’s imperative to identify them. You’ll finally break free from the suffering you’re dealing with (not just in your gut, but all over your system).

Symptoms & suffering correlated to food sensitivities can include:

  • Unpleasant periods accompanied by PMS and cramps
  • Mood swings that change without rhyme or reason
  • Depression, anxiety and panic attacks where it feels as if the world is ending
  • Extreme, debilitating fatigue where you can’t get out of bed
  • IBS, constipation, loose stools, uncomfortable bloating
  • Weight gain, thyroid problems, hormonal issues and menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats
  • Trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, insomnia
  • Joint aches and pain

And so much more… the list goes on and on and on.

If you’re struggling with any of these problems, I invite you to explore this powerful food sensitivities healing tool to improve your gut health.

Food Sensitivities – A Root Cause of Disease

From the perspective of natural holistic health, food sensitivities are often seen as the root cause of physical conditions and many mental and emotional conditions. Why?

  • Since food is something that we ingest everyday, it has the potential to be the biggest toxic substance that we consume (on purpose) causing us harm. After all, “One man’s meat is another man’s poison.” -Lucretius
  • Undetected food sensitivities are a source of inflammation and stress on the body; the two MAIN causes of disease. So it’s not food sensitivities that cause disease. Rather, the stress and inflammation produced by food sensitivities that cause further issues.
  • We can create our own sensitivities by eating certain foods during TRAUMATIC experiences in our lives. The trauma doesn’t need to be one of dramatic proportions, it just needs to be traumatic to you. The body can’t digest properly when it’s stressed. So if you’re eating a lot of a certain food during a traumatic time in your life, it sits in the digestive tract longer, which increases the sensitization capacity of the food, rendering it more immunogenic and/or allergenic1.
  • We are disconnected. For many, it is due to our past traumas that have severed our body’s ability to properly feel from the waist down. The physical and spiritual elements of our bodies don’t talk anymore. So we eat food that is supposed to nourish us, but we can’t feel whether it is good or bad because of this disconnect. This may be why people with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) often also suffer from psychiatric disease2 3.
  • Many of us have been on rounds of antibiotics or prescription medications that destroy the healthy balance of gut flora (A.K.A. our gut microbiome)4 5. This can lead to conditions like leaky gut or small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), increasing the likelihood of food sensitivities.

Superfood Diets

Most of us find ourselves sitting on what I like to call Pain Island. Here we feel unwell, confused, & are simply going through the motions. I was there for the greater part of my life.

I had odd symptoms; like a constant itchiness under my skin, especially over my belly button and abdomen area. I was bloating so bad after eating that I seriously looked pregnant. My periods were so out of whack that in my late 20s I was experiencing symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes and night sweats. On top of it all I was so chronically fatigued it became next to impossible for me to even get out of bed.

I went to multiple practitioners to find out what was wrong. Many of them instructed me to remove the most common allergens from my diet like dairy and wheat (A.K.A. gluten), and put me on a “superfood diet”. I was so thankful because I thought it was finally going to be the solution that would stop my suffering.

Queen of The Thrones Castor Oil helps you heal Food Sensitivities.

So there I was, consuming broccoli, almonds & kale — all of the “good stuff” — for months, yet I was still feeling horribly off and wrong.

The practitioners would tell me,

“Don’t worry, keep going, it’s just a normal healing crisis.”

It was a crisis alright! I didn’t feel like I was healing and I was getting all the more desperate. After going to 5 different practitioners, I got fed up and finally took matters into my own hands. I went back to school to become a naturopathic doctor & find MY answers.

I’m grateful for these hardships now. It was through my pain and confusion that I found my passion and became a naturopathic doctor.

Healthy Food can be a Food Sensitivity

Eventually I discovered my unique food sensitivities, and guess what they were? Broccoli, almonds & kale. The main foods in my ‘superfood diet’ were at the root of my ongoing health issues.

Healthy Food can be a Food Sensitivity

The Journey to Healing

Through my personal experience, education & clinical practice with thousands of patients, I’ve come to understand there are 3 steps in the journey to healing:

  1. Reduce the two main causative factors of disease: stress and inflammation.
  2. Reconnect the physical and the spiritual.
  3. Test for sensitivities using multiple techniques, more than simply blood tests (the validity of laboratory IgG tests is debated in the medical community6 7).

These three steps will lead you through the journey that takes us from Pain Island, across ‘Know Thyself’ waters all the way to Pleasure Island, where we feel healthy, empowered, free from food sensitivities & ready to live out our purpose. It took me a long time to get to Pleasure Island… But it was well worth it! Plus, thousands of my patients who have done the same feel this way too.

Food Empowerment Kit takes you from Pain Island to Pleasure Island

I want to give you the map and show you the shortcuts to get to Pleasure Island quickly. I want you to know what I wish I would have known all those years ago — how to test, what to do, and all of the ins and outs of navigating your personal world of food sensitivities.

The Food Empowerment Kit is the map that will help you to navigate from Pain Island where you’re feeling totally unwell in your body & simply going through to motions, to Pleasure Island, where you feel empowered, healthy & ready to live out your purpose & passion.

Why Am I Always Bloated? | Tips to Wake Up With a Flat Tummy

When you’ve spent the majority of your life struggling to achieve the infamous flat belly, it’s like the golden goose — just slightly out of your reach. You achieve it and feel so proud, so rewarded, only to crash, crumbling down. It works great for a week and then ‘poof’, it’s gone, and you’re back to square one. All because you cheated just a little bit on your diet.

Food allergies cause abdominal bloating

It’s so hard to be “perfect” all the time. You try, and you do your best, and I want to honour that here!!! You are working hard, good for you.

But maybe, just maybe — it’s not enough to only avoid certain foods. After all, you know you can’t avoid indulging on more than one occasion. Let’s face it — you’re human and you’re not perfect, and that is absolutely OK!

So how can we indulge and not go back to square one? Instead of feeling like a beluga whale, we want to feel bodacious and like our best selves!

Here you will learn why the bloat happens, the main factors causing problems and the easy nightly routine that you can do to help alleviate the problem.

Why Do I Get Bloated?

There are many causes of bloated bellies. When you feel and look 7 months pregnant and well, you’re not… it’s a really important sign that things in your body aren’t working as they should. There is something terribly wrong with the environment in your body.

Here are the most common reasons why you’re dealing with bloating.

  • Food allergies, sensitivities or intolerances (most commonly, dairy and wheat)
  • High sugar diet
  • Excessive processed foods
  • Lack of exercise and natural movement
  • Constipation (lack of daily bowel movement)
  • Low digestive factors
  • Unhealthy gut microbiome
  • Insomnia, or problems sleeping
Gluten and dairy are common causes of abdominal bloating

Let’s look at this interactive day-in-the-life example so you can see what I mean.

Living with Daily Bloating

Here’s what happens. You wake up in the morning with a relatively flat stomach. For breakfast, you eat a bagel and cream cheese. Seems innocent enough, right? As it goes down your digestive tract, because you are sensitive to it (gluten and dairy as it has been shown that the majority of people are), it causes inflammation and irritation. You may or may not feel symptoms directly associated to the food, but things are brewing down under!

What’s brewing is the unhealthy bacteria and yeast that look for any opportunity to advance their position and the best one to them is an irritated, inflamed gut and digestive tract (no matter how it got that way). They easily propagate and build their colonies and biofilm, which is a protective barrier that keeps them colonizing your gut.

Then, to make it all go down smoothly, you follow your delicious bagel with a cup of coffee, that you added 3 tsp of sugar and milk to (which is also sugar), or you opted for a healthier version: a glass of orange juice (BTW that is equivalent to 8 tsp of sugar).

Here you add flame to the already burning iridescent fire. Sugar FEEDS yeast overgrowth; this well known in natural circles as Candida. Your microbiome, as it’s called, is up to no good, and causing you bloating because of it. Coffee also promotes the stress response, so when paired with sugar, it creates one unhappy couple.

A solution? Switch to green tea! Green tea heals the gut lining, improves the microbiome and stimulates you like a coffee, but relaxes you at the same time, negating the cortisol spike that may occur2. We have 100% organic loose leaf Estate Green Tea now available on the Queen of the Thrones® CANADIAN online shop.

Queen of The Thrones Green Tea heals the gut and reduce abdominal bloating

Bacteria and yeast aren’t all in all bad, but those that are bad create nauseating gases and ferment in your body. These nauseating gases not only make you smell bad but they also slow down how quickly you go to the bathroom. This means you’re more likely to be constipated when this happens.

Plus you feel foggy-brained and fatigued. It’s almost like you are creating your own alcohol in your digestive tract. I am 100% serious here!

There is of course a serious complication with all the other factors causing bloating. Add complication to an already complicated matter with the next aspect.

Is Bacteria Causing me to Bloat?

The microbiome is often blamed for gas and bloating, specifically in the condition known as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), where one of the main symptoms is bloating due to gas created by overgrowth.

Well, yes and no, and as you can see from the example above. It’s many factors.

The reality is, it’s a big smorgasbord of interplay between related factors that create the ENVIRONMENT in your body for there to be bloating.

Change Your Environment, Change Your Life

How do you then fix the environment or the foundation of your body, without having to take a bazillion supplements and see a bunch of practitioners to get things in control?

A great first step is to have your food sensitivities tested. Food sensitivity testing allows you to see the whole picture and YOUR personal reaction to foods.  In naturopathic college, I was personally unwell and struggled with food for a long time.

A food sensitivity blood test determines your IgG reactivity levels for different kinds of foods

Well, it turns out that the foods that everyone recommended were actually the ones that I had a sensitivity to and should have avoided! To read more about how food testing was my saving grace, head over to my blog on “How Food Allergies, Sensitivities and Intolerance are messing with your IBS”

If you’re interested about more information on food sensitivity testing, you can find important resources in this lab testing website in the US.

Calm your Abdominal Bloating with Castor Oil Packs!

The keys to this legendary treatment that has been around since the beginning of human civilization is that it works because it supports the fundamentals of health.

It has been shown to improve bloat because it improves these 5 key things:

  1. Function of digestion, absorption and elimination
  2. Antioxidant status
  3. Inflammation regulation
  4. Tension and stress reduction
  5. Host microbiome balance

What this means for you is better digestion, a good night’s sleep, better tolerance of stress, improved bowel movements, and increased absorption of good fats that help you heal and help you with cleansing and hormonal balance.

You will still need to be conscious of your diet, but regular practice of the castor oil packs allow for indulgence that won’t do you in. This is the awesome part about resetting the foundation and not just focusing on the symptoms!

Queen of The Thrones Castor Oil Pack improves your digestion, absorption and elimination.

A Castor Oil Pack is typically placed on the liver underneath the right rib cage and worn for a minimum of one hour, or ideally overnight. Why? Because you don’t tend to your garden only once in a while, you make sure it is watered, has good nutrients and that you keep the soil healthy and hospitable.

What also keeps the garden happy? The natural day and night cycle.

Optimize your Sleep Cycle with the Beauty Sleep Eye Kit

The best way to optimize your sleep cycle is naturally, with The Beauty Sleep Kit™. It’s a castor oil pack for the eyes.

These packs help to block out light, but also help with improving your melatonin. The best benefit is that they also help with growing your lashes and eyebrows as well as reducing the fine lines around your eyes.

It’s a win-win! As part of your bedtime routine, before putting your eye mask on, apply the castor oil with the cosmetic brush on your eyebrows and eyelashes.

So there you have it, a better understanding of a few things that cause the dreaded bloat, but most importantly, what you can do about it now, so you don’t always have to be living on pins and needles when you indulge. You get deeper foundational healing and support of your fundamental function and the ability be disciplined with a bit of indulgence.

What Does it Mean When Your Poop Floats?

Doctor Marisol ND., Queen of the Thrones® mission is to help people unlock their body's secret code & heal their gut.

Why should you always look in the toilet bowl?

I have a habit.  It’s a scary habit to some, but for me, I know it’s the single best thing that I can do for my health.  I look down into the black hole on a regular basis.  This black hole, in a clockwise fashion, sucks away all of my worries.  (By worries, I mean the stench that is stinking up the room sometimes, not always).

The toilet bowl, or as I like to call it, the throne, is an integral part of every single person’s life.  It is something we all have in common.  Yep, everybody poops!

I’m here to set the record straight on the question of whether stools should float or sink, and the answer is: SINK!

Floating Jewels

So do you ever question what is happening inside of you when you see floating in the bowl?  No, I’m not talking about your morning cereal.  I’m talking about the toilet bowl and the submarine that was supposed to sink but instead is floating like a steamboat?!  Choo, choo!

If the natural, healthy thing is to sink, but yours doesn’t… What gives?  Read on to find out why this might be and the easy formula to help fix it!

Is my Problem Fat Malabsorption?

When your poop floats, it’s typically a sign that you’re having issues with fat.  I don’t mean the fat on your body, rather the fat present in food that your body’s trying to digest.

Fat is so very important for your system for many different reasons.  First of all, fat isn’t bad for you!  In the 1980s fat was villainized as badly as the Joker from Batman, and very wrongly so.  Yes, unhealthy, bad fats should be avoided, but good fats are crucial for your body to function well.

Doctor Marisol ND., Queen of the Thrones® explains the relation between nutrition and digestion.

Here’s what healthy fats do for your body:

  • Fats feed all of the body’s cells and is needed for them to work properly
  • Fats help our skin look fresh and beautiful
  • Fats feed your brain and make you happy!
  • Fats trigger areas of our brain that help us to feel satisfied and “full” after a meal
  • Fats also help support our hormones, because our hormones are manufactured from fat

One of the most important jobs healthy fat has is:

It helps with transporting toxins out of the body.

Why?  Because many toxins are fat-soluble.  Toxins such as heavy metals or xenoestrogens found in plastic disrupt hormones and the immune system and so much more.

Floating Poop… What Does it Mean?

So when your poops are floaters rather than sinkers, it’s usually a sign that you are:

  1. Eating too much fat and not enough fiber to absorb it
  2. Having problems digesting and absorbing fats

Think of it like this.  In oceans, or in your sink with all of your dirty dishes, when there is an oil slick you see the oil floating on top of the water.  The poor wildlife (mostly birds) get covered in oil because they are floating on top of the water!

Should your poo sink or float?

So you know if your poop is floating, you have problems with fat, and it is even more severe if there is also an oil slick present in the toilet bowl. Also, the color of your poo is a sign of what is going on with the #1 thing that your body produces.

Gallbladder Problems?

If you don’t have a gallbladder you lack bile, so floating poop will be normal for you. It is extremely difficult to properly absorb fat if you are missing yours (this is why I often caution against getting your gallbladder removed because fat is SO important to our bodies).

Turn your Floaters into Sinkers

Here are a few best practices to help you absorb your fats better and get those floaters turned into sinkers:

  1. Switch to good fats and avoid the unhealthy fats – go for coconut, olive and avocado oil more often
  2. Before you eat, make sure to have your Queen of the Thrones® Grateful Dung™ Bracelet on and do your Daily Dining practice.  Name 3 things you are grateful for to get your gut ready to digest.
  3. Wear your Queen of the Thrones® Castor Oil Pack daily to optimize your digestion, absorption, and elimination (as well as improve how your gall bladder dumps bile)

So from now on, I want you to think fat is PHAT! (how my teenager says super cool!)

You want to absorb it because it keeps you beautiful, happy, and healthy.

Do it!
